Kyoto is often named as one of the most popular tourist destinations that people want to visit again and again. Kyoto has historical temples and shrines, some of the best sightseeing spots in Japan, and the latest stores, restaurants, and cafes, all of which can be enjoyed any time of the year. Even if you have already visited a place before, you may find it even more fascinating and want to revisit it with a different perspective and new knowledge….
The Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is the hotel where you can encounter a “new Kyoto” through your own different sensibilities and filters.
The hotel that shows us the “new Kyoto”
“The Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel” was opened on June 18, 2021 as “HIYORI Chapter Kyoto Tribute Portfolio Hotel” under the concept of “Welcome to the story called Kyoto” with the mission of “Discovering Kyoto as you have never known it through the unique filter of this hotel”.
The hotel’s name “Chapter” means “Chapter XX” in a book, and is intended to encourage guests to write a new chapter in their lives during their stay in Kyoto.
As you enter the entrance, you can see the “CHAPTER FACTORY”. This is an area where the concierge desk and people who know Kyoto well can freely use their travel records. The concierge, who knows Kyoto well, will suggest unique ways to spend your time in Kyoto.
In addition, here you will find a collection of travel records by people who know Kyoto well, all in the form of a single post-it note. You can get new ideas for your trip to Kyoto by reading them, and you can also keep your own record on a single post-it note.
Kyoto-like design and functional space
The design concept of “Chapter Kyoto” was inspired by the Japanese lifestyle and culture of the Heian period. Drawing inspiration from Japanese tea ceremonies, the guestrooms feature key elements of Japanese tea rooms and are reimagined with a modern interpretation to offer functional beauty and comfort with a sense of tradition.
The room’s windows are like shoji screens, and the gentle light coming in from outside makes me feel nostalgic.
I stayed in a 26-square-meter “Superior Twin (with bathtub)”. It looks a little cramped because we had a baby cot put in, but it is enough to make you feel at home.
Many of the rooms at “CHAPTER KYOTO” are equipped with shower booths only, but there is a large “CHAPTER NO YU” bath where you can take a relaxing soak to recover from the day’s work. It is not a hot spring, but they use water pumped up from the ground in Kyoto. In addition to the indoor baths, there is also a half-open-air bath, making it a satisfying bathhouse.
A fitness center is also available 24 hours a day for those who are in the habit of working out.
In the lobby, there is a coffee machine and a foreign currency exchange machine for international visitors.
Enjoy a breakfast buffet at “CHAPTER THE GRILL”, the all-day dining restaurant, featuring a wide variety of Kyoto ingredients.
At “ROUTE BAR NIJO”, the bar attached to the dining room, you can also enjoy cocktails using “KI NO BI,” a craft gin from the Kyoto Distillery, located across Kawaramachi Dori.
Convenient location for sightseeing in Kyoto
The Chapter Kyoto, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel faces Kawaramachi-dori, one of the main streets in Kyoto City, and is only a 4-minute walk from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the municipal subway Tozai Line. It is also conveniently located for sightseeing, with easy access on foot to the Shijo-Kawaramachi area, the busiest shopping district in Kyoto City.
Across Kawaramachi Street, the craft gin store “House of KI NO BI” has a great atmosphere where you can enjoy Kyoto’s craft gins in a relaxed atmosphere.
Teramachi-dori, a 10-minute walk from the hotel, is an area with a traditional Kyoto atmosphere.
A little further on from Teramachi Dori, you will reach Nishiki Market, the kitchen of Kyoto.
